Mini-Review, comparison with competitors and a special offer for Elephone P7000

Elephone P7000 can rightly be considered as one of the most interesting phones, based on the latest high-performance 64-bit Mediatek MT6752 processor. According to specs, it is generally superior to ThL 2015 and Zopo ZP920, and direct competitors like iOcean Rock, Meizu M1 Note, or even the higher version of Jiayu S3. The phone was so good, that I even changed my tradition not to make any preorders….

Let’s see:

In fact, the situation with the NFC support is not yet clear, because it was stated in the initial version of technical characteristics in winter, but later disappeared from there. Also, there is a clear information about the proximity and light sensors, magnetic compass, gravity and Hall sensors. But no confirmed information about the gyroscope, linear acceleration and orientation sensors. As for the rest, we have an explicit flagship model of Elephone line and more than worthy competitor, not only for the above mentioned phones, but also for any other, including brand-name mid-range devices. Among its advantages we should mention the capacious 3450 mAh battery (versus 3140 mAh in Meizu M1 Note, 3000-3100 (real 3000) mAh in Jiayu S3, and 2300-2700 mAh for the other competitors so far), the metal elements of the case, smart LED indicator of system events, built-in into “Home” touch button on the front panel, Android 5.0 from the factory (also, there are rumors about the “official” MIUI, Cyanogenmod and other popular Android shells), and, of course, a large and potentially very easy-to-use fingerprint scanner on the back panel under the main camera. Easy-to-use, because in normal book orientation grip of the phone with both right and left hands, it will be just under the index finger. Unlike the scanner of tested in details Elephone P5000. In the latter, however, you can try and unlock it with your thumb, holding it sideways, which is not very convenient and weakens its grip, but does not require to take the phone with both hands. And by the way, Elephone P5000 supports NFC, so we do not lose hope that the manufacturer will release a version of its new flagship with support of this technology.

Talking about the performance of Elephone P7000, no special revelations are expected, because we have already had Jiayu S3 on the test, which is based on the same processor, and has the same screen resolution. Elephone may have somewhat higher performance at the expence of larger amount of RAM (3 GB versus 2 GB in tested version of Jiayu S3, but S3 is also available in version with 3 GB of RAM), and probably faster built-in flash memory (up to 800 Mbps read/write speeds, according to Elephone). However, judging from the first test results, available on the Internet, Elephone P7000 shows about 46000 points in AnTuTu Benchmark, while Jiayu S3 may hardly reach 41,000. The difference is substantial, and it can not be explained by the inaccuracy of measurements. Therefore, if we assume that Elephone doesn’t use an optimized version of the test, the reason for this increased productivity to be found in the operating system – Android 5.0 Lollipop. Again, even the transition to new version of the operating system, as a rule, is not able to raise the productivity of other factors being equal to more than 10%, but in this case we’re not just talking about the updated version of the OS, but also about added support of 64-bit ARM v8 instructions, not used in the current version of competitors firmwares, based on Android 4.4. 64-bit instructions not only allow Mediatek MT6752 potentially use more than 3 GB of RAM (a little less than 4 GB is the principal limitation of going out of date 32-bit architecture ARM v7 Cortex A9/A7/A12/A15/A17), but also give a number of advantages in flexibility and performance, the details of which you can read, for example, here. Perhaps it is support of 64-bit instructions in Android 5.0 allows Elephone P7000 to squeeze out from MT6752 extra 5000 points in the AnTuTu Benchmark.

Unfortunately, Elephone, following the unkind experience of Jiayu and other competitors, has seriously delayed the release of P7000. Perhaps, the delay is due to adaptation of the flagship Android 5.0 and the latest versions of the popular shells for it. According to initial plans, the phone should have been on sale in March; in fact, it will be available only in the late May, which is, however, very soon.

By the way, you may have noticed that many stores, where Elephone P7000 is officially sold (currently, the list of stores can be seen directly on the home page of the official website), have lots for this phone with the price of just $160, and everywhere, unfortunately, it is out of stock, while you can easily make the preorder with the ordinary price. Here, obviously, Elephone is trying to follow Xiaomi (to which it is still a long way off, let’s face it): the company plans to set up three stages sale of the phone, when a certain number of buyers, who managed to preorder and sign up for the discount, can buy the phone for $160 instead of the usual $230. At the same time, a $160 version of the phone will be sold without accessories (original leather case and a special protective glass) and a standard, instead of extended two-year, warranty. Anyways, for $ 160 it is more than a good offer. But in order to get the phone at this price, it is necessary to work hard and have a certain portion of luck. If you do not have the spare time to catch the phone for $ 160, need the original accessories, warranty, and you want to get the phone as quickly as possible (number of phones for $ 160 is limited and you should be fast to get one, and they will be shipped in order of queue), then until 20th of May you can order Elephone P7000  with the original leather case, reinforced glass screen protector and 2 years guarantee with $15 discount for only $ 214.99. To do this you need to order the phone here and apply the coupon15SPE7000during checkout.

I expect to get my Elephone P7000 in less than a month, and then you can expect a full review of this interesting device, both text and video.
